John DeTerlizzi (Johnny D) is the founder and owner of Finger Lakes Backwater Marine. He is a native Central New Yorker with more than 30 years of waterfowl hunting ,fishing and boating experience. Johnny is proud that he grew up in CNY with a rod and gun in hand and says "you can take me out of CNY but you can't take the the CNY out of me, and it is one of the best kept secrets for an outdoorsman in the country." He now spends the bulk of his time in Tampa, FL where he can boat and fish year round and represents MudBuddy motors there as well. However, when hunting season begins he always finds his way back North. Johnny cut his teeth hunting Canada Geese and ducks in the fields off Cayuga Lake and the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge backwaters in the heart of the Finger Lakes Region of the Atlantic Flyway.
His resume of hunting and boating experiences has taken him to11 states and Canada. Including the Mississippi River pools in Wisconsin, the lakes, rivers, and flooded timber in North and South Central Illinois. He has also made his way into the backwaters of Florida, the grain fields of Kansas, the green timber of Arkansas, and the potholes of North Dakota along the Central Flyway.
John has owned, operated, and maintained Mud Buddy motors and Excel boats for several years. Whether he is floating in the shallows, fishing the flats or when the hunt calls for a backwater solution and equipment, John is able to go where others can’t.
